The main falls originate at the top of the cliff, but icy gallons of snowmelt also gush from the sieve-like volcanic rock face. Pets are allowed, but check the restrictions on the website. This State Park has it all for families, visitor center, recreation Lake, fantastic waterfall, general store and lots of picnic space. The camping area is closed because of covid right now though. Continue down the path to the pool—where you are likely to look but only briefly touch: the water never goes much above 42 degrees. Only one drawback: the parking was a challenge--we had to park by the side of the road, and ended up walking about 3/4 of a mi (one way)!

The short hike to the falls takes you to the bottom of the falls, but not to the water's edge. The hike down to the falls is short and easy with a paved path. The falls are absolutely amazing! McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park has 100 family sites without hookups and some primitive sites located a short distance from the falls and lake. Bookings may extend from the arrival date to the desired departure date – based on availability and the park’s maximum stay rules.The park is within the Cascade Range and Modoc Plateau natural region, with forest and five miles of streamside and lake shoreline, including a portion of Lake Britton. (Burney Falls in early April) The final stop is the McCloud River Falls.
