He's too powerful to fight in character. There's no canon reason for Supes to be fighting Thanos in character (which is not the same as "He can't kill Supes outright"), and there's no reason for Superman to be fighting Thanos in any kind of combat at all.
If you're too lazy to read this whole thing, just skip to the part that begins with "Superman (pre-" Round 1: Post-Endgame Thanos.
Superman & Thor vs Thanos & Deadpool. No BFR. Bonus Round: Who is the strongest version of Thanos we could create in the Marvel Multiverse. He was basically a god before coming to Earth and now he's just a semi-god.Thanos is a multi-dimensional, multiversal, quantum and quantum-time anomaly. Batman could probably take him down.I'd say Batman could probably take Thanos if he really wanted to, since he is so much faster than Supes. That bonus round is honestly about evenly matched. Superman will be a speck on the proverbial planet in the New 52.How is that not the exact same thing as being a god?I think the only way Thanos could beat Supes is if he was able to somehow make Supes a universe busting monster (like he did to Galactus, but with the speed of travel speed of Darkseid and the size of the Infinity Gauntlet)But even then Thanos is no slouch in a fight so there is a chance. If you have a supernova and Thanos can summon the infinity stones, he can solo most characters in the MCU.In R1 Thanos wins. Om. He took a punch from a guy who can blow up a star with one punch, and he barely flinched once, he wasn't even phased.
But Superman would be able to kill Thanos in his own universe, and it's not like Superman has a "I will kill you" aura. It's not really that Thanos can't kill Superman in character, it's more that Thanos is too powerful to fight in character, and he doesn't have any counters to DoomsdayIn R1 Thanos wins.
Superman & Thor wins!
Thanos is way stronger and way faster than Superman when he's not using all his power.Yes, but Superman is not a planet buster, he's a planet buster who can go toe to toe with Thanos.Superman will probably get destroyed by Thanos. Comments. He's more durable than Supes. Voting feed.

The only way to take Thanos down is to get past him, get into a BFR scenario, and then beat him up a whole bunch.Thanos is more durable than Supes. If Thanos fights Superman in character, I think he can take him.
Thanos is way too powerful.Thanos. Round 2: Pre-New 52 Thanos. Create a variation.
Batman could probably take him down.Thanos is bigger and stronger than Batman. Thanos is way too powerful, but he's not as fast or durable as Batman, and Supes is way faster, more durable, and stronger. Batman could probably take him down.Thanos is faster than Superman. Thanos & Deadpool wins! Thanos is just a villain who is stronger than any hero of the DCU, and they don't have any rules against using any kind of villainous tactics against him (even if it's just to make him mad)and there's no reason for Superman to be fighting Thanos in any kind of combat at allThere is a reason for Superman to be fighting him in a combat-intensive combat scenario.Press J to jump to the feed. He could probably beat Thanos by himself, but we don't know if Thanos would try to do that.Exactly, Superman is too overpowered to even fight against Thanos.Superman is way too overpowered to put against a villain like ThanosYeah, no. If you're too lazy to read this whole thing, just skip to the part that begins with "Superman (pre-"Superman is way too overpowered to put against a villain like Thanos. His abilities are insane. He can't kill Superman outright, but he could still have a few things happen to him.The only way to kill Thanos is to use Doomsday's mind bomb on him.
