It was created by Patrick Somerville and directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga and is loosely based on the Norwegian television series of the same name by Espen PA Lervaag, Håakon Bast Mossige, Kjetil Indregard, and Ole Marius Araldsen. Maniac, also known as Sex Maniac, is a 1934 black-and-white exploitation/horror film, directed by Dwain Esper and written by Hildagarde Stadie, Esper's wife, as a loose adaptation of the 1843 Edgar Allan Poe story "The Black Cat", with references to his "Murders in the Rue Morgue". The creature gives him a euphoric state of happiness but demands human victims in return. This version was released in cinemas and in 1984, given a video release through Video Classics. The uncut version was released on DVD in 2005. I however didn't find the relationship he had with the model he stalked all too believable. Director: George Mihalka. While many believe she is a miracle, others worry that she could be dangerous.
It has some good scenes and is still a good watch for slasher fans and fans like me of gritty New York City in the 70's and 80's. A computer engineer investigates the secretive development division in her company, which she believes is behind the disappearance of her boyfriend. A killer dressed in a police uniform begins murdering innocent people on the streets of New York City.

Netflix's mini-series Maniac, starring Emma Stone and Jonah Hill, turned out to be a huge success, thanks to the futuristic setting and the mend bending storyline.
