You would think so close to the city it might not be so great but tucked away are quite a large network of challenging trails through natural reserves. Pick up the trail at the northeast corner of the lot, where it descends immediately to Corral Creek. There are more trails planned for this region, but for now the only trail in Corral Canyon is the Sara Wan Trail – a 2.5 mile loop that has a decent climb and some very nice views along the way. Corral Canyon is an awesome spot to wheel just 45 mins east of San Diego and located near the town of Pine Valley.

The Sara Wan Trailhead at Corral Canyon Park in Malibu provides easy trail access to regionally significant 1000-acre Corral Canyon Park the 700-acre Cameron Nature Preserve at Puerco Canyon.The trailhead provides parking, picnic areas, restrooms, educational displays, sitting benches, and seasonal access to L.A. County-operated Dan Blocker State Beach.Corral Canyon is the last undeveloped canyon that flows freely to the ocean. There is a $12 fee. To the left, the trail continues up the canyon, while to the right it heads south wrapping up the terrace to the east.To avoid spending half the hike looking over your shoulder, continue up the trail to the left.

I am not faint of heart…..but I felt like I was taking my life into my own hands just pulling out….way too stressful….do yourself a favor and park just past the seafood place.

Enough hikes close together here to make a full day. Corral Canyon Hike at Sara Wan Trailhead in Malibu, California is the start of what is likely one of the best hikes in the Los Angeles area! These trails which run across the Cleveland National Forest Lands, offer you a heady mix of scenic beauty and test of skills.

Pass the remains of an old chimney (perhaps this canyon isn’t as pristine as it claims) and begin switching up the east side of the canyon.

A five-dollar fee is charged to park at the trailhead. We got there at about 900am and there was still plenty of spots on a Sunday!

Some sections are a little rugged but … Stay to the left and go clockwise through the loop, the climb is gradual and the views at the end of the ocean are beautiful. I also enjoy Solstice Canyon (just the next canyon over, nice waterfall hike.

Midday down canyon you will encounter the old posts of the namesake corral, with the concrete water trough still in position straddling the old fence line. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash. A quarter mile below the overlook, pass the bottom of that path headed straight up the ridge toward Puerco Motorway and Back at the junction, two-thirds of a mile below the lookout, make a left to return to the parking lot on the trail where it all began.

Parking is not allowed on the north side of PCH near the trailhead.
