The room was magnificent. At the end of 1898 construction was started on a “Pavilion” at the summit to accommodate the tourists once the line was completed. The outside garden areas are fantastic. The restaurant is also a must do in Cloudcroft. Used coffee condiments package, no coffee packs on the coffee tray, no shampoo but conditioner for one person.

The lack of good dining choices in Cloudcroft was the one disappointment of our stay here. The toilet flushed every 3-4 minutes continuously. Contact The Lodge Resort & Spa in Cloudcroft, with weddings starting at $12,197 for 50 guests.

The bed was uncomfortable and the next day they turned it. With the elevation it gets cool if not cold at night so don't forget a light jacket, even in the summer. Saying that, I had the most wonderful stay. There is no elevator. Seasoned by a rich and cultured past, The Lodge Resort beckons you with alluring promises of intrigue.

We stayed several nights in June. The Alamogordo Daily News reported the formal opening of the new summer resort in a June 22nd, 1899 story. All the furniture and surroundings make it so. Disaster struck again in 1919, when a fire raced through the uninsured building.

Some of the more familiar ones include: The Cloudcroft Cafe and Lunch Counter, the Pavilion Inn Motel, Camp Canary and the Mason Jar Restaurant.In 1988, after major renovations, the establishment received its latest name, simply “The Pavilion.” The Pavilion currently serves as the bed and breakfast portion of The Lodge, with 10 rooms, each decorated in simple, rustic decor with knotty-wood pine walls, down-filled comforters and stone-laid fire places in some rooms. I have to say I overheard the owner talking with people to get their memories of the Lodge and also the history. The massive stone fireplace, wide sweeping staircase and beamed ceiling reflects the style of a long-gone era.Two large balconies, which are shaded by spruce trees, invite visitors to sit for a while and enjoy the beautiful setting.

The new facility was modeled after the previous building with a cafe and sleeping quarters.Through the years, the Pavilion has seen its share of owners and names. Lodging is a major part of the success of Cloudcroft and thanks to four establishments that have been here for almost a century the success doesn’t appear to be stopping anytime soon.The earliest report of activity at the facility was reported in a July 16th, 1904, article in the Cloudcroft Silver Lining. Then we return home only to find an overcharge to my credit card statement.

Starting with making my reservation, the lady made sure I would have a first floor room. A Great August Escape. We have stayed at the Lodge … The staff of the hotel is quite pleasant and accommodating in all areas; the atmosphere is traditional and relaxed. This would and is a great place to celebrate anniversaries as it is very romantic. We had a delightful time - quite restful and cool at 9000ft, Our room was large and comfortable with a new mattress, and the restaurant, Rebecca's was as always -- upscale with an extensive menu (each of our dinner choices was excellent) and excellent service for both breakfast and lunch. Not a problem really...you are back in the 1890s. A four poster bed that was super comfortable.
