And also, although this itinerary looks super comprehensive and fun, it seems like a lot of stuff and you’re always on the move, if there are things you would skip based on this what would it be? But the small flights in between, I booked individually. We found our favorite food to be served out of a family’s kitchen converted into a little restaurant on a back street where we went to just duck out of the rain. This itinerary is ideal if you want to experience the capital and nearby attractions in 7 days. The one-week tour begins with a two-day visit to Bogotá, where you can visit excellent museums, dine in fine restaurants, attend cultural activities and go shopping.Colombia's famous underground Salt Cathedral, located 50km north of the capital in Zipaquira, is a great option for Day 3. If you’re bussing from Medellin to Minca, it’s going to take quite a while and you’re not going to be able to enjoy Minca at all. It truly is beautiful and very safe to walk around at all times. The road rules are insane – drivers seem to follow their own set of unwritten rules, which often involves driving on the wrong side of the road or playing terrifying games of chicken – and I wouldn’t feel safe recommending anyone get into a car and drive themselves around Colombia! But today, two weeks in Colombia will give you a great taste of what this country has to offer! !Wow, this post is very comprehensive and definitely will be useful for visitors going to Columbia!
You’ll pass through a pretty cool tunnel of foliage then pass by other beaches, campgrounds, restaurants, cross a small stream, and you’re welcome to stop at any of these. Though we liked Cali, there is not much to see here. I really enjoyed the city of Cartagena too, don’t short yourself.

Our favorite snack is While chilling on the beach in Bocagrande, don’t pass on a Holy s**t, your one-month backpacking in Colombia flew by. Do most restaurants take credit cards? I’d love to hear about other areas of Colombia that you discover and some off-the-beaten-path discoveries you make.

Getting pizza in Colombia sounds like a super gringo move. Minivans can cut the distance between San Agustin and Neiva into 4 hours (reserve longer, if you go through Pitalito).I’d strongly recommend including Tatacoa Desert into your Colombian itinerary, though it’ll mean an extra loop. The streets are cobblestoned and beautiful, but with with an edgy, graffiti-covered, grunge vibe much different from Cartagena. Which was your favorite place?Hmmm it’s a tie between Salento and San Gil. Today, you can walk safely through this lively and vibrant neighborhood with children riding bikes and laughing, art covering the walls, and tourists everywhere.Since we arrived in Medellin with the afternoon to spare, we took a private tour with an awesome guide that I booked ahead. Our picks include affordable design hotels in the big cities of Colombia, genuine boutique hotels in San Agustín and the Amazon (yes, you can do those Amazon adventures comfortably! We’re realizing we’re going to have to let something go. Part of the “coffee triangle,” Salento is arguably the most beautiful area for tourists to visit. I wouldn’t worry about the rain too much. We’ve updated so thanks for the help!Hey Michelle, our month in Colombia cost us $2000 total for both of us without factoring in our flights (fwiw, our one way flight to Cartagena on JetBlue was $500). But there are people/vendors on those beaches, so if you’re specifically lookig for more of a wilderness/isolated beach, Parque Tayrona is great. This is a great Colombia itinerary.

What can you NOT do in San Gil is a better question. You’ll have a layover in Bogota, but according to our investigations, the multi-destination flight will be only a slightly more expensive than a single leg from Bogota to Leticia. Thank you! Check out Hey, I'm Jeremy! The prices are quite marked up so be prepared with enough cash. Despite the 1 hour drive, we opted to take a taxi from the airport to stay at the lovely For luxury, and being extremely close to the park entrance, definitely choose Some of the most famous photos from Colombia come from Tayrona National Park, and specifically the beach of Cabo San Juan. Instead they have 15 person Jeeps that people load into and One of our favorite places to stay in all of. This two-week itinerary is a great choice if it’s your first time to Colombia and you want to cover the urban highlights, some great beaches and historical sites. Seems hard to believe, but Salento comes pretty close. I absolutely love and appreciate your posts. Cali was way out of our way on the coast, and we’d heard it was one of the less safe areas in Colombia, but having been in Colombia for a month I’d say that doesn’t actually make me nervous at all these days (just take typical precautions as you would anywhere, don’t go looking for drugs, don’t flash your money around like an a**hole, etc). Looking back we think that our itinerary was perfect, though of course this depends on what you want to get out of your holiday.

Another option instead of bussing would be to fly – there’s an airport in Bucaramanga near San Gil which will run quick flights to Medellin.

Yes, I think that’s what I love about Colombia is the variety! Having only visited as a day trip from Medellin, I found it touristy and crowded. It’s the touristy area for sure, but for a reason. There are tons of street art, nightlife, restaurants, and tourist attractions nearby. We’ve got a whole post onIt doesn’t get much better than the fish in Cartagena. We organized our itinerary the way we did in the order we chose because what we REALLY did made no sense in terms of doubling back and taking long, 17 hour bus rights.Incredible itinerary. We paid around 100$ for the Neiva-Leticia leg and 80$ for the Leticia-Bogota leg. Take off to Colombia with us!Are you ready to reveal the magic of Colombia? We went to the bus station the day before and bought our tickets in Salento to Pereiera. Do you have another mode of transportation recommendation that may be shorter?San Gil & Salento are both close to Medellin so if you broke it up with Medellin in between it would be much easier. Having a car SOUNDS more convenient, but parking is not a given in a place where most people take transit to get around. It kind of rose from the ashes into this incredibly vibrant city full of life and love.
