Over the years, we have received many awards for social and environmental excellence. Everyone from the managers to the gardeners were helpful, personable and a joy to be with. Birds and monkeys in the trees over your balcony, butterflies everywhere. Meanwhile you sit in bed and watch the sun come up over the sea, possibly with monkeys playing g on the decking and mackaws and toucans sitting in the trees. The food and service wouldn't be out of place in a top restaurant, but what makes this place extra special is the staff. We were told of the lack of power sockets and the hair dryer ban but there were more than enough sockets and a hairdryer was provided. Our bungalow had an uninterrupted view of the Pacific Ocean from every angle. The staff are obviously very happy here as smiles abound and most of them have long service here, which reflects in their work. This hotel is 21.2 mi (34 km) from Corcovado National Park and 0.5 mi (0.9 km) from Pan Dulce Beach.
The room is completely open (with mosquito nets fitted all around) allowing you to feel the sea breeze as you lie in bed - no need for air con here! The food , room, guides, wildlife and views were all amazing. Opened in 1993, Lapa Rios Lodge is now recognized globally as a model of sustainable tourism. Rooms … We spent spare time on our huge decking in the shade just watching the wildlife. Extremely luxurious with amazing views.
We joined all the in house walking trails except the waterfall one which were excellent. Upcoming Dates in May, June, August & September You really don't need to go off site.
From the moment we arrived at Lapa Rios we knew it was going to be a wonderful stay. Taxes and fees that are shown are estimates only.
Coffee/tea is brought to your bungalow at 6am (or whatever time you choose) and sundowners can be requested at 4.30. We also spent time by the pool which has fabulous views but really needs more shade..Look out for the iguana as you sit there. The lodge’s private rainforest reserve and network of guided hikes on nearby trails are designed to access this extremely biodiverse environment.
The bar and pool area was excellent and we mostly had it to ourselves apart from George, the 5 foot long Iguana who seems to live by the pool, who sunbathed all day and was totally relaxed ( see photos). Whether you were sitting in one of the two queen beds, on the terrace or in the indoor shower, you could look out onto the sea. It is a truly magical experience. The food and guiding are also excellent. However, I am not quite sure that it is as green as it once was. Much more than a luxurious eco lodge, Lapa Rios is a model ecotourism project and a sustainable tourism pioneer. I couldn't fault a single thing at Lapa Rios and highly recommend it.Get a lower number cabin say 1 - 6 to have a shorter walk with less steps although we enjoyed our...It’s hard to describe how fantastic Lapa Rios is. Lapa Rios is one of National Geographic's Unique Lodges of the world and fully lives up to its reputation. - just an honest view from someone who has actually been there!) Here, you’ll encounter iconic frogs and macaws; endangered monkeys and over 300 bird species. Every inch is waiting to be discovered.

There were a lot of steps to navigate to get to the restaurant and bar from our cabin, however, we treated the it as part of out holiday as we regularly saw Toucans, Scarlet Macaws, Poisonous Frogs, Tayras, Agutis, lots of Monkeys, Iguanas just on this walk. Here, you’ll encounter iconic frogs and macaws; endangered monkeys and over 300 bird species. Drinks are very reasonably priced for a hotel of this quality too.
