I just know this film is funny, there is no violence in it for a change and it is something you can watch when life is a bit crap around you, and your dont have to think too hard to enjoy it. He decides to walk the Trail. They are out of shape and encounter many surprises along the way including bears, a fellow hiker they don't want to associate with, a jealous husband, and a bad fall onto a plateau that they can't escape from. However for my part I loved this movie. Bill Bryson ends up on the Appalachian trail with the only person who will go with him: Stephen Katz (Nick Nolte), a man markedly out of shape, a womanising ex-alcoholic who's got a little secret about why he wants to go. Nolte stole every scene playing himself.

Disappointing take on Bryson's book. This is a great movie.

The first edition of the novel was published in 1997, and was written by Bill Bryson. This was a very good movie.

Worse, if you look at it without the book in the background, it's not even a terribly funny or interesting film period.Redford and Nolte are the perfect pairing in this superb comedy.
