Jan 29, 2020. It seems that many leaders are in their position because they are good friends with the founders, worked at Facebook, or the organization had a hard time finding someone to fill the role so they promoted within.

CZI talks about diversity but many leaders feel that they are compromising quality when they hire diverse folks or that they have already reached their quota of diverse folks. Another good news is, CZI recently beefed up the Data Science team with the goal to help track and quantify short term and long term CZI impacts, so in the near future we will have more indirect metrics that hold us accountable in the work we do. There’s a bit of a disconnect from the reality and the narrative CZI tells in both the employee culture and the company’s work products.
