This movie is entertaining from the start and right through to the end. Richard Attenborough got this as close to the truth as he could about Chaplin's life. "Chaplin" is otherwise rather like the autobiography: windy, courtly, full of names and dates but never terribly revealing about either the film maker's life or his art.
This might work for someone who is still alive, in an era still current, but Chaplin's legacy remains in his films and the times in which he lived are detached from most modern takers. Downey Jnr's work is amazing, the moreso since at the age of 27 he plays Chaplin from 17 to old age with complete conviction.
